The Annual Jazz Concert in Memory of Daniel Milano ’93 began on December 5, 1998 in Grant Recital Hall in a concert featuring The Brown Jazz Band, several Jazz Band Alumni and trumpet soloist Manny Duran. Since then jazz greats Branford Marsalis, Toshiko Akiyoshi, Rufus Reid, Phil Markowitz, Semenya McCord, Ed Tomassi (in a concert in Rome, Italy), Bob Mintzer, John Vidacovich, and The Gabriel Alegria Jazz Sextet have performed in successive concerts. These concerts have become an important part of music at Brown generally and jazz performance especially. In the clinics, workshops, rehearsals and post-concert jams surrounding the concerts we have followed Dan’s lead in exploring new sounds and spreading enthusiasm for the music.
